PUNTACANAs resort philosophy is based on privacy and low density. There are 4 restaurants in the resort, a lobby bar and an evening lounge. The best part about the PUNTACANA Resort is that if you want more action you can easily go into the town of Punta Cana or Bavaro, which are a short drive from the resort.
The PUNTACANA Resort (always in CAPS when referring to the resort, as opposed to Punta Cana, when referring to the city of Punta Cana) has a great PB Dye golf course called the "La Cana Golf Course," and is currently building their second and third golf courses, designed by Tom Fazio and PB Dye respectively. There is a tropical ecological center at the resort, as well as a large Equestrian facility.
The PUNTACANA beach is very beautiful, with waves gently breaking off shore over a unique natural coral reef, approximately 500 yards off shore. The PUNTACANA Resort has a quaint marina where you can charter a fishing boat and enjoy some of the best fishing in the entire Caribbean. The reason for the great fishing is that the Dominican Republic is separated from Puerto Rico by the "Mona Passage." Since the Mona Passage is the deepest point in the Caribbean, the largest fish live in its abyss and surface to feed. Marlin, sail fish, tuna, and many other species of game fish are found in the Mona Passage.
